Data Visualization in Power BI

This course provides participants with practical, hands on experience with Power BI for analysis and visualization of financial and business data. The curriculum covers DAX expressions and development of interactive dashboards, building skills required to deliver meaningful analysis for clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders. Participants develop the capability to apply Power BI for reporting, business intelligence, and data driven storytelling across the organization.​

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the role of Power BI as a business intelligence tool and explain how it supports financial analysis and reporting.
  2. Differentiate between Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service and identify how each can be applied in professional workflows.
  3. Connect to and import data from multiple sources, including Excel, databases, and external systems.
  4. Apply data cleaning and transformation techniques using Power Query, including managing errors and applying M code.
  5. Write and apply DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to perform calculations and enhance data analysis.
  6. Build a range of visualizations such as charts, treemaps, maps, funnels, and KPIs to represent financial and operational data effectively.
  7. Use interactive features including slicers, grouping, and bins to allow stakeholders to explore data dynamically.
  8. Design and manage data models, including creating relationships and applying filters across multiple tables.
  9. Assemble and format dashboards that combine multiple visuals to tell a coherent and persuasive data story.
  10. Apply best practices for themes, design consistency, and insight generation to deliver professional, decision-ready dashboards.
